Serious issues with Premiere right now. The timeline cursor in my main editing window is stopping, then jumping, stopping then jumping...

What I wrote to Adobe:

I made the mistake of updating my Adobe Products. I will save everyone from the "paying for a product that always has issues" mumbo jumbo that I want to spew, this is not the place to do that.

When I am editing my videos, for some reason now the time line cursor will stop (I uploaded an image to show below, just in case I am not using the correct terminology). The video keeps playing. Then the cursor will jump to the time on the timeline and then stop again. Then it will continue to do it, it will stop for 3-5 seconds, then jump to the correct location.

It is very difficult to edit when you glance down at the cursor line thing in your timeline only to see it lagged or sitting at the wrong place in the video edit and you have to stop the video for it to "catch up."

Now before you say it is the files and the size, wtc, I wanted to remind you, this never happened before even with much more intense videos, and my rig is not to shabby:

i9-10920x

64GB RAM

RTX3080

WIN 10 Pro

Downgraded Premiere back to 23.6.0

Working in only 1080 60fps.

This only happened after I updated to the latest version. I since downgraded my version to the last working one and it is still doing it. Again never happened before, this week it worked perfectly. Just started yesterday after I updated the app.

Any help please?

I took the plunge.

I cancelled Premiere. I am now working with Divinci to see how well it works.

It really sucks. If Premiere would just release stable versions I would never have this issue.

I started getting really choppy video while trying to edit with Premiere. The video would freeze up at points though the timeline would continue to run as well as the audio. In part because my new GoPro had 5.3k footage which was a lot for my computer to handle (though I've noticed it with 4k footage as well). It was very frustrating.

I had to learn about creating proxies which I had never done before.  That solved the issue I was having with the choppy video.

That is what everyone is telling me to do. If this was something that has happened for a long time then yes, I would.

a week or so ago, before the update, it worked perfectly. There was nothing wrong with the files, the program, the project. It just worked. ONLY after I updated did this problem crop up. So that leads me to believe it is Premiere with the issue, not me and my files.

The odd thing is my computer was created for PREMIERE. No shit. That is why I am really quite upset about this. Imagine pouring 4K into something that now no longer works.

Mind you, it is a great computer, use it for so many other things... but the idea is there.

This weekend I am just going to transfer everything (all video editing files) onto its own SSD drive. I have a 1TB one from my old computer and I have about 380-400GB of files. So it will have it's own dedicated drive.

The lengths I am going to try and get something to work that should work without question is very insulting to me.

Just disheartening, so much so I am looking to stop creating my highly edited videos anymore. If the thing that I love and look forward to is turning into a nightmare and stress...

Then obviously it is not worth it anymore.

Adobe essentially destroyed my channel.

It's happening recently to my 4k footage as well so I suspect you're right that it's due to a change with Premiere Pro.

Don't give up - make them proxies and that should do the trick.

I am switching to Resolve. I am taking my time with it, I don;t have any deadlines or anything so week to week I will just teach myself the program.

Not sure an editing program could have a worse interface, and that is by far my biggest obstacle with resolve.

Anywho. Saving myself 20-25 bucks a month and if Resolve is it. Black Friday has it at 229 lifetime. So I will buy it and never have to worry about this any longer.

Oh man I started to have the same issue with the timeline cursor.  It would stop and the didn't follow along with the footage.  Thought I was in trouble.

Then I realized the power cord had come unplugged.  ;D

Nice... lol.

I thought possibly I had the same issue but I had the company I bought the computer off of, do a bench mark and everything was on point and I have more than enough energy for pretty much anything I throw at it. I went a step or two above what was recommended, just in case. Even made sure my Power strip is rated, and of higher design.

Again I get real ornery when I have to do all this extra stuff to make something work that should just work without any issues.

It doesn't seem to be a widespread issue though every single person I talk to that works with premiere (roughly 5 so far) all have mentioned some sort of speed issue, that it seems slower.

Shrug shoulders... who know.
