Thought this would make an interesting post here; (copied from Facebook) https://www.facebook.com/groups/1030252420481394/permalink/2014353972071229

What happens if you take a year off from regular posting when you have a developed channel?
Hi everyone, so I've taken a year off. I had only posted about 8 videos in a year. What happens? Well, now I can tell you!

Does it damage you? Does it hurt your pocket? Does it kill your sub count? Do people forget you? Do views drop? What are the effects of not posting?

For me, here are the answers;
Does it damage you? No, not at all.
Does it hurt your pocket? No, you still get paid the same.
Does it kill your sub count? No, the opposite, people still subscribe and you still grow.
Do people forget you? A few do, bit for the most part, they're excited when you're back.
Do views drop? No, not at all.
What are the effects of not posting? Basically, your growth slows down, and you aren't constantly pushing new content for YouTube to show off.
Hope this helps, Antony..

What's everyone think, My channel grows when i don't post, but grows faster when i do :)

I post hardly ever, so maybe I should post never?  ;D

I started my Yotube channel in June 2013 and only really kept up the channel for about a month as my laptop burned out and I wasn't in a position to have it fixed.
I began uploading again in 2016 and only uploaded 1 gameplay before I stopped again.
It was only the last 3 years that I started to take it a little bit more serious that my Subs went from about 30 to over 400.
So I think it is advisable to upload on a fairly regular basis.

I recently saw this video on just the subject of this thread, and I think there are numerous good ideas there.

also can search "Take a break from Youtube" for more videos on the subject.

Once in a while I will chill on my uploads. Mind you I have widdled my way down to one a week from three. Since Youtube's algorithmn is not friendly to my kind any longer.

I did not see a change in views per video.

But I did see a change in subs. Where I was getting around 20/10 split (20 sub, 10 unsub) - when I slowed down to one a week, it was dropped too 7/3 or a 10/4 - give or take. Less subs but less unsubs (ratio wise).

Don't know if that helped any but... I don't think I'll ever go past 1 a week now. Just not worth it. I love making videos but when you put a ton of effort into your videos, and the place that is supposed to help you and assist you in growth, pretty much gives you the middle finger... your ambition for it quickly evaporates.

I stream on the weekends, so there is that... doesn't help sub count or views. FYI.

Then again I would say that you need to take some time off to recharge as a couple of times I suffered with what I think you might call YouTube burnout.
I was uploading about 2 videos per day seven days a week and just fed up with gaming and uploading but I only took about 5 days off.

What on earth? That's an insane workload.

I'm trying to do 2 a week and finding that hard enough to find time for.

I don't think frequency of posting is the issue.  Look at channels like DIY Perks he posts infrequently but when he does his videos are very comprehensive and worthwhile and h4e'ds clearly been doign a lot of works on the project in the time he hasn't been posting.

Mark Rober is another example.

I'm starting to actually think that reducing the amount of uploads is a good idea as I noticed when I was uploading every day up to 2 uploads per day my channel was struggling to grow.

I took a week off a couple of weeks ago and saw that my Subs had gone up better than when I was keeping an insane schedule.

But I suppose when you post too many videos your viewers could just be burned out by too much content

As in all things the answer is...it depends.  I've started watching some channels of people hiking the Appalachian Trail.  These are folks uploading 4-6 videos a week.  I look forward to their almost daily uploads.  But if it was a different type of channel I might not be such welcoming of such a frequent upload schedule.

That's because these AT channels are sacrificing quality in order to get these videos out quickly.
I think in most cases quality definitely takes presidency over quantity though. These channels could definitely take more time and use more editing tricks to make the videos more engaging.  But that would take time/effort they don't have on the trail.  If they were to take a lot more time working on the videos they would be "better" but they'd also lose the immediacy of posting them as soon as possible and they would no longer function as an "almost live" vlog-style video.

I have to say I have really slowed down on my uploads. As I was uploading around 14 videos per week.
Now I upload around 3 - 4 videos per week if that and I seem to get the same amount of subscribers and views or I might even be gaining more with a reduced upload.
I don't know if it's that people were getting fed up with the amount I was uploading and thinking "Oh god'd It's him again "

I think my main problem was I thought the more I uploaded the more views I would get but it didn't work out that way.

I think the main reason for the reduction was uploading was starting to feel more like a full time job than an actual fun hobby

An older thread I know but I think

I'd choose QUALITY over quantity every time.
